QUESTIONS.
ANSWERED.

Everything you need to know about the Moreton Island experience, what your booking includes and how to prepare.

The experience

What is The Campfire Crew experience?

The Campfire Crew runs social, guided 4WD tag-along camping tours for travellers aged 18–35. We supply the vehicles, lead the convoy, plan the island route and coordinate the camp while everyone gets involved in the adventure.

Our flagship experience is a three-day, two-night Moreton Island/Mulgumpin camping and adventure tour from Brisbane. It is designed as a complete weekend trip, with most departures running Friday to Sunday and any special midweek dates shown clearly in the booking calendar.

Who can join, and can I come by myself?

Our standard trips are for adults aged 18–35 on the departure date. International travellers, Australian travellers, backpackers, Brisbane locals, solo guests and groups of friends are welcome.

You can absolutely come alone. This is a social Moreton Island group tour: shared vehicles, camp life, meals and activities are designed to help solo travellers and friends feel part of the crew quickly.

How many people are on each departure?

Each Moreton Island departure is limited to 14 participants, keeping the convoy and campsite social and manageable.

Where do we meet, and what should I know about the ferry?

The weekend begins at the designated Brisbane meeting point. Your booking information will provide the exact location, required arrival time, ferry check-in instructions and expected return window.

Please follow those instructions rather than relying on a general map search. Ferry timings may change, and the group cannot always wait for a late guest. Avoid tight, non-refundable plans immediately after the expected Sunday return.

What are the pickup locations?

You can currently choose from the following pickup locations:

  • Meet us at Moreton Island Adventures ferry terminal
  • Bunk Hostel, Fortitude Valley
  • LyLo Hostel, Fortitude Valley
  • 4 Parkland Boulevard, next to Roma Street Station
  • Free parking at Ballymore Stadium

You must select your preferred pickup location in the booking area before continuing to payment. Your confirmed trip information will provide the required meeting time and any final pickup instructions.

What activities will we do, and is the itinerary fixed?

The Moreton Island adventure may include 4WD beach and island-track driving, sandboarding, swimming, optional snorkelling near the Tangalooma Wrecks, optional paddleboarding, beach games, Cape Moreton Lighthouse and Blue Lagoon sightseeing, shared cooking, camp time and an outdoor movie night.

The itinerary remains flexible. Tides, weather, ferry timing, track conditions, closures and park directions may change the route, timing or activities.

Price, inclusions and spending

How much does the trip cost?

The Moreton Island weekend is usually $689 per person and is currently $620 per person.

What is included in the booking price?

The core Moreton Island camping package is designed to include everything required for the planned itinerary:

  • Return group transport from Brisbane
  • Vehicle ferry tickets
  • Campfire Crew 4WD vehicles and fuel
  • Campsite booking and national park access
  • Tents, sleeping bags and shared camping equipment
  • Meals, drinking water and cooking equipment
  • Guided convoy and trip coordination
  • Sandboarding equipment
  • Snorkelling equipment when conditions allow
  • Paddleboards when conditions allow
  • Camp games and shared activities

There is no additional activity charge for planned snorkelling, paddleboarding or sandboarding when those activities run. Personal purchases and the items listed under “What is not included?” remain your responsibility.

What is not included?

The following are not included:

  • Transport to the Brisbane meeting point or home from the Brisbane return point
  • Clothing, swimwear, towels and toiletries
  • Personal medication
  • Private travel insurance or ambulance cover you choose to purchase
  • Alcohol, specialty drinks and additional snacks
  • Purchases from island shops, cafés or other businesses
  • Optional third-party activities or accommodation arranged independently
  • Personal expenses before the meeting time or after returning to Brisbane
Will I need additional spending money?

The essential trip costs are included, so you should not need additional money for the planned itinerary. You may still want spending money for alcohol, specialty drinks, extra snacks, souvenirs or other personal purchases.

How do payments and discount codes work?

Payments are processed securely through Stripe. Available card and payment options appear during checkout. If you have an eligible discount code, enter it in Stripe before completing payment so the final amount is shown clearly.

Driving, activities and safety

Do I need my own 4WD, and will I get to drive?

No. This Moreton Island 4WD tour is designed for travellers without their own 4WD. We supply and allocate the vehicles, and every booking includes a passenger seat.

Eligible guests can ask to be considered as customer-drivers, but driving is optional, approval-only and never guaranteed. The tour is not a vehicle-hire service.

What is required to be considered as a driver?

You must be at least 21, hold a current full or open licence valid in Queensland, have held an appropriate full or open licence for at least 12 months, complete the required licence checks and driver documents, and pass the crew briefing and assessment.

Overseas drivers may also need an International Driving Permit or an approved English translation. Driving privileges may be refused or withdrawn when reasonably necessary for safety, insurance or operational reasons.

Are swimming, snorkelling and paddleboarding supervised?

These activities are optional and only run when conditions and the crew’s activity plan allow. Swimming, snorkelling and paddleboarding are self-directed unless specifically stated otherwise. We do not provide lifeguard services, swimming lessons or guided snorkelling, and you are welcome to stay out of the water.

How do meals and dietary requirements work?

We provide the listed food ingredients and shared camp-kitchen equipment, and guests prepare, cook and share meals as a crew. Everyone must follow the hygiene, refrigeration, raw-food separation and cleaning instructions provided.

Tell us about all dietary requirements. If you have a severe allergy, a history of anaphylaxis or concerns about cross-contact, contact us before paying. We cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment because vehicles, fridges, utensils and cooking areas are shared.

What health and safety requirements apply?

You should be able to manage a three-day outdoor camping environment, sandy or uneven ground, getting in and out of 4WDs and the activities you choose.

Contact us before booking if a medical condition, injury, disability or mobility limitation may affect safe participation. You must provide accurate medical and emergency information and bring enough personal medication for the entire trip.

Is Medicare accepted, and do I need insurance?

Before departure, every participant must confirm they have Medicare or provide suitable private or travel insurance details. If you select Medicare, you will not be asked for your Medicare number or an insurance document. If you select private or travel insurance, you must provide the insurer’s name, emergency telephone number and policy number and upload proof of cover.

Participants remain responsible for medical, ambulance, rescue or evacuation costs not covered by Medicare or their insurer.

Booking and getting ready

Can I book for my friends?

Yes. One person can purchase multiple places in the same order. Each traveller receives a unique participant code and must create their own profile, apply their code and complete their forms separately.

We will try to seat friends together, although specific vehicles, seats or sleeping arrangements cannot be guaranteed.

What is the difference between a group booking reference and a participant code?

The group booking reference identifies the overall order. A participant code belongs to one individual traveller and connects their profile to their place in the booking.

The lead booking person can view the participant codes in the booking confirmation area and share each code with the relevant traveller.

How does my friend join our group booking?

The lead booking person should send each friend their own unique participant code. Your friend must then create their own Campfire Crew account, log in, enter that code in the booking-linking area and select Apply Code.

Their reserved place and trip date will then appear in their account as part of your group booking. Each friend must complete their own profile, disclosures, uploads and document signatures before their place changes from Seats Reserved to Booking Confirmed. Participant codes are unique, so friends must not share or reuse the same code.

How do I know my payment was successful?

Stripe displays a confirmation after payment succeeds. Your logged-in account will show Seats Reserved, along with your participant codes and downloadable payment receipt.

After you complete all required information, uploads, disclosures and document signatures, your trip status automatically changes to Booking Confirmed.

What forms must every participant complete?

Each participant must complete their own profile, required agreements, document acknowledgements and signatures, medical disclosures, activity-suitability information, emergency-contact details and medical-cover declaration. Participants who ask to be considered as a customer driver must also upload the front and back of a current driver licence valid for use in Australia and sign the additional Customer Driver Form.

Your account shows your preparation progress and anything still missing.

What should I pack?

Bring suitable clothing, enclosed shoes, warm layers, swimwear, a towel, sun protection, insect repellent, toiletries, a reusable water bottle, a torch or headlamp, personal medication and a small soft bag.

Tents, sleeping bags and shared camping equipment are provided. Vehicle space is limited, so avoid large hard suitcases. Do not rely on Wi-Fi, phone reception, mains electricity or charging points at camp.

What happens if I cancel or the trip has to change?

Unless your departure information states otherwise, the standard cancellation terms are:

  • 14 or more days before departure: refund of the trip fee paid, less non-refundable booking or payment-processing fees and unrecoverable third-party costs.
  • 7–13 days before departure: 50% refund of the trip fee paid, less non-refundable fees and unrecoverable third-party costs.
  • 0–6 days before departure: no standard refund. No-shows, late arrivals and missed departures are treated the same.

If we cancel before departure and cannot provide the trip, we will offer a transfer, credit or refund of the trip fee paid to us, subject to your legal rights. Reasonable changes caused by weather, tides, ferry disruption, closures or safety concerns do not automatically mean the trip has been cancelled.

Our Terms & Conditions, Refund Policy and Australian Consumer Law apply.

Walk the dune together, pick a line and let gravity handle the trip back down.

03 · Optional paddleboarding

Change the pace.

When conditions allow, choose to swap the tracks for calm water—or relax on shore.

04 · Beach volleyball

Skip the small talk.

Pick a side, call the ball and meet the crew properly through a game on the sand.

Make dinner together.

Prep, cook and share the meal as a crew. The conversation usually outlasts the barbecue.
